A Member of the Communication Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the North East Region, Abdul-Rahaman Hamida has accused the President Akufo-Addo of betraying Vice President Bawumia, following what she described as an endorsement of Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng as the next flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The outspoken communicator said it was wrong for the President to have introduced the Trades and Industry Minister to the Asantehene as a good Presidential material hoping to take over the mantle of leadership.
“It’s a betrayal of Dr. Bawumia’s hard work for Akufo-Addo to introduce Alan Kyerematen to the king of Ashanti and never did same to Bawumia when he visited his hometown quite recently” she stated.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show with Mumuni Yirifa Yunus on Tuesday, Madam Hamida accused the NPP of always playing tribal cards when a Northerner ascends to the top of the party structure.
However, a member of NPP communication team, Yushawu Danjuma who also spoke on the program disagreed.
He said the president was only allowing for a r a level playing grounds for all presidential hopefuls of the party.
While introducing dignitaries during a tour of the Ashanti Region on Friday October 1, 2021, the President told the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II about two individuals he has heard wish to contend for the seat of President.
“Asantehene, allow me introduce my team members. Here is your grandson, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, my Agric Minister who wants to become the President.”
Laughter spread through the gathering after this statement and the President could not help but join them.
“Nana, this is Alan Kyeremanten, he has been vying for my seat for a very long time, a very workaholic Minister,” he added.
