Amidst tensions in the Mion constituency, Hon. Mohammed Salam, Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC, has justified the Functional Executive Committee’s sanctions against Mr. Zakaria, the former chairman of Mion constituency.
On Monday the National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced the decision of its Northern Regional Functional Executive Committee to remove its Mion Constituency Chairman from office.
It also banned the chairman, Alhaji Abdulai Zakaria from holding office for two years.
Following the removal and the sanctions, some concerned youth of the party in the area expressed their displeasure and called on the committee to reinstate the deposed chairman to avoid the party from collapsing in the constituency.
The angry supporters claimed the decision to remove the NDC Chairman was “not only unfortunate but also unpopular and cannot ensure unity, cohesion and victory for NDC in 2024”.
However speaking on Radio Justice’s Tudu Lahabali Kpana Saha, Mr. Salam said, the committee acted on the evidence available to them and that anyone who disagreed with the ruling could file an appeal at the national level.
