The Regent of Bimbilla, Nyelinbolgu Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana says the chiefs and people of the Nanung Kingdom hold the security personnel who embarked on an operation on Tuesday responsible for the shooting incident in Bimbilla in the Nanumba North Municipality of the Northern Region.
Naa Yakubu Andani who described the operation as an “irresponsibility” said it could have resulted in clashes between civilians and the military.
His comments come after security personnel allegedly shot and injured one Fuseini Osman, a security guard, during an operation on Tuesday.
It is unclear what kind of operation it was, but many residents say it was an operation to search for and retrieve weapons in the possession of civilians in the area.
However, the Acting Overlord of the Nanung Kingdom condemned what he said was the lack of consultation on the part of the security agencies.
“Issues like this should not happen at the blind side [of] the traditional authorities and other relevant stakeholders. Involving the traditional authority is a way of involving the community in exercising your duties” Nyelinbolgu Naa Yakubu Andani said in a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday.
He said considering that there are unhealthy rumours of an impending tribal war, Bimbilla and Nanung should be “the last place for such misfortune to happen”.
“When we have the situation where this same quarters instead of giving us hope for our lives and properties rather put fear in us in their operations, then the citizens have so much to be afraid of” the Bimbilla Regent noted.
Naa Yakubu Andani said he will closely monitor the health situation of the man who was shot by the security personnel until he fully recovers.
