The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has confirmed Mr Sule Salifu as its Chief Executive.
Mr Sule polled 40 Yes votes out of the 59 Assembly members who voted, representing 70 percent of the vote cast.
He needed at least 39 votes to be confirmed as the Mayor of Tamale.
The elections was supervised by the Electoral Commission.
The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu was among important dignitaries who graced the event.
Senior Broadcast Journalist and Lecturer at the University for Development Studies, Dr Mahama Seth Sayibu hailed the confirmation of Mr Sule, saying that he has high hopes in him to deliver as the Mayor of Tamale.
He appealed to the media to allow the new Tamale Mayor sometime to settle, before mounting pressure on him to tackle development issues in the city.
“The media should give him some time, more often than not, media persons will just start giving bad publicity to people who assume office, almost immediately and I think that it is not the best. This guy has demonstrated that he’s actually a workaholic and so we should give him some little time to settle” he told Justicefmonline’s Mumuni Yirifa Yunus on Thursday.
He praised members of the Tamale Metro Assembly for not dragging the process.
“I want to congratulate members of the assembly for not allowing us to have to wait for a second round”
