Members of the Yendi Municipal Assembly have rejected the nomination of Ahmed Abubakari Yussif Kums as the Municipal Chief Executive of the area.
Mr Yussif Kums polled 20 out of a total of 41, failing to to obtain the constitutionally mandated two-thirds of valid votes cast.
The veteran politician was renominated by President Akufo-Addo to serve a second term.
He was the MCE for the capital of Dagbon State between 2017 to 2021.
His renomination was kicked against by members of the NPP in the Yendi Constituency, who were in support of one Bawa Zakaria Kpana, the NPP Constituency Secretary and a supposed favourite candidate of the MP for Yendi, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama.
Many view the rejection of the renominated MCE as a slap on the popularity of President Akufo-Addo in the Yendi Municipality, however, a tug of war is expected to be played in the next 10 days, as he will also be pushing to sail through during the second round of voting to confirm or reject him.
