Deputy Northern Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Hon Iddrisu Hardi Pagazaa has claimed that the silence of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on whether or not Ghana should criminalize the activities of the LGBTQI+ community will be a big blow on his political career.
According to him, the silence of the Vice President leaves room for people to interpret it as a subtle endorsement of the activities of LGBTQI+.
“Anybody close to the Vice President who believes he should be President must advise him to come clear on his position on the matter” Hon Hardi Pagazaa told Mumuni Yirifa Yunus on the Super Morning Show on Monday.
“His silence will be a big blow on his political career” he added, explaining that as someone who campaigned for votes in 2016 using the fact that he is a Muslim, it is important to state whether he supports gay rights or not.
Meanwhile the NDC Deputy Communication Officer has called on the party to mount pressure on former Secretary to President John Mahama, Prof Raymond Atuguba to withdraw from his activism to see the withdrawal of the anti-LGBTQI+ bill before party.
He said the position taken by the former Presidential Secretary gives credence to claims that Former President John Mahama supports the activities of the LGBTQI+ community.
Hon Hardi Pagazaa said this should not be allowed in the NDC, hence the need for members of the party to mount pressure on him to pull out of his activism.
