The King of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abukari II has urged the revamped Dagbon Youth Association (DAYA) to be a neutral association, devoid of chieftaincy or political division.
According to Ndan Ya Naa, the Dagbon Kingdom has suffered gravely from divisions in the past, hence the need to forge ahead in peace and unity now.
“DAYA should work towards enhancing peace and security and the promotion of Dagbon traditional area. You have to remained traditionally and political neutral association of Dagbon. We have felt various problems because of division. This is the time to unite” the King said at DAYA’s extraordinary delegates conference, held in Tamale on Saturday.
The conference was attended by the former President of DAYA, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, Paramount Chief of Zangbaling, Naa Dr Jacob Mahama, DAYA executives and various Dagbon Youth groups.
The Dagbon Youth Association has been dormant since the gruesome murder of Ya Naa Yakubu Andani II in 2002 which led to years of protracted chieftaincy dispute.
There are now moves to revamp the association. Ya Naa Abukari II pledged the support of the Gbewaa Palace towards the revamping of the association.
