The review of the 1930 Constitution of Dagbon has been hit a blow following the announcement made by the Abudu Royal family that it is withdrawing from the process over the alleged bias of members of the Dagbon Constitution Review Committee.
The Abudus say members of the Committee-Lawyer Mohammed Mumuni and Lawyer (Rtd) Ibrahim Abass, both from the Andani family seem to be on a trajectory influenced by Ibrahim Mahama- the Andani family’s age long lawyer, to keep Dagbon in perpetual state of anarchy.
“Indeed, the Abudu Royal Family may be right in seeing what is going on as a surreptitious adventure or bite the bullet tactics from two persons under the tutelage of no person other than Ibrahim Mahama whose self-seeking agenda since 1969 has been to keep Dagbon perpetually in a state of anarchy.” the Abudu Royal family told Journalists at a news conference on Thursday.
The family is particularly worried that all suggestions made by chiefs from the family on several matters were not considered by the committee.
It accused the committee of pushing an Andani family agenda to remove the Gushie-Naa from the committee of kingmakers in Dagbon, noting that it was not possible because the Gushiegu Naa per the history of Dagbon has always been the head of that committee.
The family said despite several objections, the committee refused to take into consideration their side of the history, a situation it added was not good for the rebuilding of the Dagbon State.
