The Tamale Metropolitan Police Commander, Alhaji Iddrisu Yussif Tanko has assured that the four interdicted police officers who brutalized residents of Zujung, Darigohi and Nakpanzoo in the Tamale Metropolis on Monday will not be shielded.
He said the police service will not condone any unprofessional conduct by police officers, noting that “the police are not in the business of shielding wrong doers, just because they are police”.
“When we saw those videos and we saw that in one of instances, the suspect was in handcuffs and still they were caning him and he was lying down. The other person was arrested, he didn’t resist arrest, he was only saying that, let me show you something on my phone. The person didn’t resist arrest and all we say was that, they started caning that person, those are the aspects of unprofessionalism on the part of the police” Alhaji Tanko told Shaibu Ibrahim Sawayo on the Super Morning Show on Thursday.
The Tamale Metro Police Commander added that the police are expected to lead and live exemplary lives and not be the ones to break the law.
“If you’re police, you’re expected to serve as a leader and show the way but if you yourself indulge in acts that are unprofessional, the Police administration will be the first to give you out” he stressed.
Who are the four police officers?
