Hundreds of job seekers in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital thronged the Tamale Sports Stadium on Friday to participate in the Youth Employment Agency’s (YEA) Job, Career and Entrepreneurship Fair.
Many of the participants were either Diploma, Higher National Diploma (HND) or Degree holders, seeking for job opportunities. Several others were uneducated.
While some participated seeking to be employed, others attended the fair seeking financial support for their entrepreneurship businesses.
“I completed my HND programme three years ago, I have not found any job yet since completing my national service, I am hoping to find one here” a participant told Justicefmonline’s Mumuni Yirifa Yunus at the fair.
“There are no jobs in the country, so, we want to do business but we need financial capital, I pray we are considered” another participant said.
The purpose of the fair was to provide a platform for both job seekers and employers and to enable the YEA contribute its quota towards reducing unemployment in the country.
Over 50 private sectors employers participated in the fair.
The Director of Research and Planning at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Mr. Agya Yaw Nsiah told journalists over 400 job opportunities were available for the participants.
“We have close to around 400 vacancies here to recruit but you know that the recruitment process, there are different stages of it, some of them will offer on site recruitment opportunities here today and others will shortlist and invite them for further interviews.” He explained.
Mr. Nsiah added that small scale businesses will be supported with funds ranging from Gh 5,000 to Gh 30,000 should they qualify.
Haruna Mohammed, the Northern Regional Director of the YEA in an interview disclosed the agency has opened a job center in the region to help the youth find career opportunities and develop their businesses.
He urged the youth in the region to take advantage of the office by going there for discussions with the YEA officers there.
