The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu has hinted he will ensure the arrest of the alleged orchestrator of Saturday’s violent protests in Tamale which led to the violent attacks on VRA/NEDCO and the Lamshegu Divisional Police Command.
The Minister, who doubles as Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) says he will not relent in his efforts to get the Zagyuri Zaachi arrested, for the destruction and for kidnapping an alleged police informant.
“I’m saying that we’ll arrest all those people perpetrating this, and I’m not going to stand down in arresting this guy when I get him. I will arrest him and all his accomplices, because there should be law and order in Tamale” a visibly angry Regional Minister told Tamale based Diamond FM on Wednesday.
The Minister accused the Youth chief of kidnapping “an innocent citizen” was suspected to be a Police Informant and allegedly threatened to kill him if the police made any further move to arrest him.
“He [Zagyuri Zaachi] had sent information to the Police that they [Police] will come and pick the dead body of the alleged informant today [Thursday] because he’s informing the Police to come after him, and that is what prompted the Police to move in and arrest his [Zagyuri Zaachi] wife and brother otherwise what business does the Police have to go and pick his brother and wife. The Police had not even spoken with anybody” the Minister claimed.
The Minister disclosed that, the brother and wife of Zagyuri Zaachi who were arrested by the Police have since been sent back to the Zagyuri chief’s palace after the Zaachi had brought the alleged informant to the palace.
“We all know that kidnapping is a criminal offense and that alone is enough for the Police to look for Zaachi, because we know what kidnappers can do and now, he is on the loose and inciting people to mass up at the Dakpema Palace if anyone is arrested” he stressed.
“Why will one person keep terrorizing the whole metropolis, because he was the same person who sent out this video and sparked the whole thing we’re discussing now” the Minster added.
