A 44 years old farmer, from the Mion District of the Northern Region, Alhaji Mashud Muhammed has been named Best National Farmer of 2021 at the 37th National Farmers Day Awards.

The 2021 National Farmers Day celebration was held at Cape Coast in the Central Region Ghana to celebrate and award farmers accros the country.

As part of the awards, Alhaji Mashud received GHC600,000 from the Agricultural Development Bank, as well as a two-bedroom apartment and other prizes.

Speaking at the event, Alhaji Mashud expressed his delight and urged the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to address some major challenges in agriculture.

He stated that funding is still the most difficult issue for farmers in the country.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister of Food and Agriculture, speaking at the ceremony, encouraged farmers to switch to organic fertilizers in response to the high cost of imported fertilizers, which has become one of the challenges farmers face.
