The Tamale North Constituency Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhassan Lord has called on the Northern Regional Minister to call the police to order, following a series of brutalities in the Tamale Metropolis.
According to him, as the Chairman of the Regional Security Council, it is an indictment on him when police personnel brutalize people in the region without recourse to the law.
“He has to stand on his feet and let the police know that the constant brutality of Tamale residents must stop, if he fails to stand on his feet, they will disgrace him and it’ll be his shame alone” he told Mumuni Yirifa Yunus on the Super Morning Show on Wednesday.
The NPP Communication Director said this after police personnel attached to personnel from VRA/NEDCO brutalized residents of Zujung, Darigohi and Nakpanzoo yesterday, for allegedly using power illegally.
He cautioned the police to avoid creating rancor between them and the general public, saying that it could be a recipe for disaster.
“He should let the police know that such attacks should stop because if the people rise up against them, ask yourself how many officers are they in Tamale? It will be a recipe for disaster” he noted.
This is not the first time police have brutalized residents of Tamale. In April 2020, police raided Changli, a suburb of Tamale and randomly brutalized residents and arrested over 100 people after a police woman was allegedly attacked by some youth of the area.
Most of the victims sustained several degrees of injury, with one journalist, Mohammed Kamil Baba sustaining gunshot wounds.
