The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has suspended two leading members of the campaign team of NPP Flagbearer hopeful, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng.
The two; Dawuda Jentuma, an Electoral Area Coordinator and Alhaji Ibrahim Kaleem, a Member of the NPP Communication Team were suspended for defying the directives of the party’s Regional Chairman, Mohammed Bantima Samba.
Their suspension comes after the two, engaged in a series of radio engagements to protest what they described as unfair treatment in the application of party rules and regulations by the NPP Regional chairman.
Chairman Samba on the 30th of December 2021 issued a directive for party people to cease, among others, all media engagements purporting to campaign for flag bearer hopefuls.
The directive did not go down well with Mr Dawuda and other supporters of the Trades and Industry Minister who accused the NPP Chair of selectively applying the rules to favour the flagbearership bid of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking on Radio Justice’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, Mr Dawuda dared the Regional Chairman to suspend him, threatening to “expose” certain unnamed individuals in the party.
A letter dated Thursday January 6 and signed by the NPP Constituency Chairman for Tamale Central Constituency, Mohammed Ibrahim and addressed to Mr Dawuda who is the Choggu West Electoral Area Coordinator of the NPP stated that, “Pursuant to Article 3 Clause 7 (1) of the constitution of the New Patriotic Party, this letter constitutes official notice of your indefinite suspension as Choggu West Electoral Area Coordinator for the New Patriotic Party in the Tamale Central Constituency.”
“You have also been referred to the constituency disciplinary committee for investigation for a complaint of misconduct Specifically, on Tuesday January 4, 2022 you were in the studios of Radio Tamale for a live radio programme to ostensibly promote the bid of Hon Alan Kyerematen for 2024″, the letter further stated.
Similarly, a letter titled “Notice of indefinite suspension from Northern Regional Communications Team”, addressed to Alhaji Kaleem and signed by Mohammed Ibrahim Sheriff, NPP Northern Regional Communications Director said “My attention has been drawn to your participation in a program on Radio Tamale (a Tamale based radio station) designed for the sole purpose of advancing the campaign of a purported flag bearer aspirant. This program and your participation in same is in clear violation of a directive issued by the Northern Regional chairman of the NPP for party people to cease, among others, all media engagements purporting to campaign for flag bearer hopefuls”.
