Aside the social media trend, the smock challenge can be found everywhere in Tamale, from people’s homes to their workplaces.
The #SmockChallenge is a social media viral challenge started by Dagombas ahead of the two-week-long annual Damba festival, which is currently underway.
On Monday October 25 edition of the Supper Morning Show on Radio Justice, guests representing various political parties appeared to have accepted the challenge.
They all appeared on the Super Morning Show hosted by Mumuni Yirifa Yunus wearing well-designed smocks.
The host congratulated them on their choice of attire and encouraged them to keep it up.
The communication team members who represented the various political parties were, A. Gafaru Shishegu of New Patriotic Party, Issahaku Mohammed – Awal of the NDC and Abdul Jalil – Kassim who represented CPP.
The challenge is to promote the wearing of the beautiful traditional wear of the Dagomba people, the smock, locally known as “Bingmaa” among social media users.
