The Saboba Township in the Northern Region has been thrown into a state of mourning after eight Junior High School pupils drowned in a river on Friday.
The eight, all pupils of Saint Charles Lwanga Roman Catholic JHS were part of at least 30 students who were returning from the rice farm of their teacher, when their boats collided and capsized in the river.
Online news portal, DGN Online reports that a teacher from the school went with the pupils to harvest his rice across the river in Saboba.
According reports ,on their return from the farm, the pupils paddled themselves with two boats and collided on opposite direction.
About 15 on board where able to swim out of the river but eight drown.A search team in the community were able to retrieve 7 dead bodies leaving one missing in the river.
However,a search is still ongoing to retrieve the missing body.
