The Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mohammed Yakubu Ahmed has disclosed plans by the assembly to build a modern market complex in the Municipality to boost business activities in the area.
“Very soon, you’ll see the commencement of work on the construction of a market” the MCE disclosed, albeit, without providing timeline for the start and completion of the project.
The market is expected to open up the Municipality to investors and also provide job opportunities to residents of the area.
Mr Yakubu Ahmed disclosed this to Mumuni Yirifa Yunus on the Media Foundation for West Africa’s sponsored ‘State of the District’ radio talks how programme on Radio Justice on Wednesday, November 24.
The MCE also disclosed plans to establish a livestock market in the area.
All these, he noted will go a long way to better the lots of the people of the Municipality.
He said the absence of a central market in Municipality is a major setback for the area, adding that the establishment of the two markets will help the assembly in its revenue mobilisation.
“When completed, the markets will develop the area, it will help alleviate poverty in the area and provide employment opportunities. The Assembly will also be able to mobilise revenue from there” he noted.
The MFWA’s ‘State of the District’ radio programme is aimed at strengthening local governance in selected Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the country.
It seeks to give the assemblies’ a platform to account to the people.
