The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Tamale Technical University has petitioned the Vice Chancellor of the university to recall students who were suspended for exam-related offenses.

On December 15, 2021, the Academic Board of the University suspended 193 students for two semesters for exam malpractice.

However, the SRC believes the university’s Academic Board violated its constitution and therefore wants the decision to suspend the students to be reversed.

According to the petition, the SRC President was never invited to the meetings of the disciplinary committee, of which he is a member.

“I took over office on 27th September 2021 as the SRC president of the University, yet I was never invited, privi or contacted by the Disciplinary Committee of the school to attend or be part of any sittings of the committee” the petition stated.

It also appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to intervene in the matter as early as possible because some affected students intend to stage a series of protests which may affect academic activities of the university.

“There are security implications to these thing. The SRC is trying so hard to tame the affected students who are poised to storm the school with a series of demonstrations which will not give an enabling environment for teaching and learning”
