The Northern Regional Vice Chairman of the National Democrat Congress(NDC), Alhaji Rufai Vellim has condemned the North East Regional Chairman of the ruling NPP for warning NDC supporters to stay away from the ongoing recruitment exercise by the various security agencies.
According to him, such comments are not only destructive and divisive but also shows the Chairman’s lack of political maturity.
Alhaji Vielim said one’s political affiliation should not be basis for them to be employed to work for the state.
The NDC Regional Vice Chairman’s concerns come at the back of recent comments made by the North East NPP chairman over the ongoing recruitment exercise within the security service where he claimed that names of NDC affiliated applicants will be struck out.
“As you’re aware, recruitments into the security services are underway. I encourage all party members to send in their applications. If you had ever come out as an NDC supporter to criticize the NPP, we will fish you out and remove your application”, the Chairman declared.
Speaking in an interview with justicefmonline.com, Alhaji Vielim said condemned the comments, saying that “such irresponsible comments must not come from a whole regional chairman. He shouldn’t forget that power will soon change hands. If that happens, should we also sack all NPP affiliated persons within our security setup?”.
He said politics is about winning power to improve the livehoods of all citizens and not just a few.
He said such comments only encourage the recruitment of unqualified persons into the security services, which he said leads to an increase in the unprofessional conduct of some security personnel.
Alhaji Vielim noted that the NPP Chairman must render an unqualified apology to Ghanaians for his comments.
