A Member of the Northern Regional Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdul Rahaman Hamida has condemned the MP for Gushegu, Hassan Tampuli for “whipping up tribal sentiments” in his attempts to garner support for the flagbearership bid of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to the outspoken NDC Communicator, it was hypocritical for Mr Tampuli to ask members of the NPP in Northern Ghana to support and vote for the Vice President at the party’s presidential primaries merely because he comes from the North.
This she noted was divisive and does not auger well for national cohesion.
Madam Hamida was commenting on the Gushegu MP’s assertion that it will be a shame on the five regions of the north if Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia fails to secure the maximum support and votes from these regions in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) upcoming primaries.
The NDC Communicator who was commenting on the matter on Radio Justice’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday said Mr Tampuli was being hypocritical in his comments, considering that the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama did not get same support from the NPP in Northern Ghana.
“He should stop the hypocrisy, where was Tampuli and his likes when they went and disgraced Alhaji Aliu Mahama of blessed memory? Did they support him? Was he not from the North?” Madam Hamida queried.
She expressed surprise at the sudden turn of the campaign of supporters of Dr Bawumia in the North, asking “You want people to support Bawumia because he’s from the North, was John Mahama not from the North? Did they support him because he was from the North?”
