The King and Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II has sworn into office, the new national executives of the reconstituted Dagbon Youth Association (DAYA).

The Dagbon Youth Association was a powerful youth front of Ghana’s oldest kingdom in the 90s.

It however became dormant for several years, after the murder of Ya Naa Yakubu Andani II and forty of his elders in March 2002.

After nearly two decades of dormancy, the revival of DAYA is expected to bring all Dagbon youth under one umbrella and push the interest of the Dagbon youth in government’s policy formulation processes.

At a ceremony at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi on Sunday, July 31 to swear the new officers into office, Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II expressed satisfaction in the revival of the association.

He urged the new executives to work together and ensure their activities consolidate the peace and tranquility prevailing in the area.

Ndan Ya-Na noted that “I am happy that the youth have decided to continue the work of their forebearers to contribute their quota to the development of Dagbon.”

The Dagbon King said that this will encourage the younger generation “to emulate the steps taken today so that in the near future they would also take up the responsibility to continue the work”.

He advised the executives to work in unity and be patient with each other.

“But let me urge you to be patient with each other in your endeavors, remain united as a group and shun bitterness amongst your ranks so that, you can achieve the desire objectives of the group” Naa Gbewaa added.

The reconstituted Dagbon Youth Association has Mr. Adam Baba Issifu as its President and Aide to the National Chief Imam, Dr Marzuq Abubakar as its First Vice President.

Other executives include, Dr Fati Iddrisu, Second Vice President and Alhaji Jagbo Baako as General Secretary, Hon Haruna Mohammed Mburidiba, Mohammed Hudu Salam and Zakaria Mohammed Taufique as 1st, 2nd and 3rd Assistant General Secretaries respectively.

The rest are; Dr Alhassan Nagumsi, National Treasurer, Al-hassan Ibrahim, National Organizing Secretary and their respective deputies and Halid Abu Ishmail as the Communications Director.

Mr. Adam Baba issifu, the National President of DAYA told journalists the support of the king was going to push them to work hard.

He said the association’s first assignment was to work assiduously to consolidate the peace and tranquility in the kingdom.

This he noted will bring the needed development in the area and the Northern Region at large.

“Ours is to ensure that we work for development and the recognition of Dagbon in its proper place in the community of nations” the DAYA President said.
